My daughter and I team clown when requested. My going rate is $100 an hour and to add her it’s a flat rate of $30. Most of the clowns in my area charge more. Our parties usually consists of 20 mins of balloons, a party game followed by a magic show. You could keep to the same format. Hoola hoops are fun, cheap and kids love to watch it when you get the parents to try it. Take along a radio and a kids party music CD. You could always play musical chairs. Instead of using chairs…take along colored pieces of paper for the kids to sit down on.

We charge a base rate of $150 (for the first hour) + travel fee for 2 clowns. We live in a rural area and many of our shows are 30 - 45 miles away. With the price of gas we can justify the additional fee.

Cubby, I love the skit esp since it involves a water can. I just bought a really awesome big bright yellow watering can to carry. I'm a little concerned about pouring water on our wigs, painted face and costumes. Do you really pour most of it behind them or just use a little bit or water? I wonder if we could use confetti instead.
Thanks for the skit, it's really cute and I'm sure we will try it.
Everyone has such great ideas. I've been reading them to my husband and we are going to make a list of what we want to try.

When I pour it on Cubby I start on his head (he doesn't wear a wig) and cap. The brim of his cap stops any water from getting on his face. I pour slowly, he briefly looks up towards the sky then ducks forward and I sprinkle his shoulders and back. I then sprinkle a little water on my hand and flick my fingers towards him and the audience so they all get a few drops. The water shouldn't affect your makeup - the few stray drops have never affected his. (We have also, occasionally used squirt guns at out door summer parties and my wig and makeup have never been affected.)
If your watering can has holes that are too big or if you have too many holes you could block some of them from the inside. I have used rolled up saran wrap or you might try some of the clear tub calking.
Good Luck!

Thank you clearing that up for me. That sounds good. So far we have a couple of easy magic tricks planned, some dancing like hokey pokey and that skit. We need to practice though and my hubby just went to take a nap. uggh! lol
I guess I'm a little nervous about doing something new. Not with what to do with the kids but to look like I know what I'm doing infront of the adults. And if I'm getting paid, I want it to be worth it for them.

I agree with Fitz. If I am in a poor end of town and being that I am a new clown I might be cheaper. Because every child deserves to have fun! I am new and I charge $75 an hour. I was asked to do a clown a gram for some people we know. The guy was going to be 30. Daddy makes six figures, He makes six figures or more and his wife makes more than me working as the secertary at our large church. They wanted me to do it free! I DON"T THINK SO! They said if I did good the could refer me. HMMMM NO! I am good enough! So I contacted my church Children's Minister and I have donated my clown to be oncall for events. That is the best way for me to get my name out. So it depends on the area you live in!!!

Petals:
Another easy watering routine that you can do involves slush powder. (Combine slush powder -- available at any magic shop--with water, and it solidifies)
Have three matching plastic cups, the kind that you cannot see through. Unbeknownst to the audience one of cups has been planted with slush powder in the bottom. You proceed to pour water into the cup with the slush powder. Then mix up the cups and ask for a victim/volunteer. Be sure that your audience and volunteer cannot see the contents of the cups.
Announce to the volunteer that he/she gets to pick one of the cups and you will dump it over your head. Mix up the cups again. The volunteer then gets to select the cup you get to dump over his head. One cup remains, and since neither you nor the volunteer has gotten wet, everybody assumes that the water is in the last cup.
Now you prepare to pour the final cup over your head. At this point, I whip out one of those hats with the umbrella on the top. After much agonizing, I pour the final cup over my head, but, alas, nothing comes out! The audience is amazed, and I take a bow.
Easy and always a hit.

I do the Mary had a little lamb gag, but use the foam packing peanuts. I pour water from a pitcher in to a hidden bucket, they just see me pouring. The second clown then picks up the bucket with the peanuts and throws at me (and the crowd behind me), and of course the girls are usually kind enough to let out a little squeal that adds to the effect. Thank heavens for little girls for without them what would big clowns do!
